Dish Soap

I’m still working on being more green. I ran out of dish soap so I decided it was time to make my own, so last night I made a new dish soap. The problem with most of the dish soaps out there use vinegar with Castile soap!

I recently learned that you DON’T want to mix them! I learned this from Emily on her blog at Live Renewed. This is what she had to say about it.The issue is that castile soap is a base and vinegar is an acid, and when you mix them together they basically cancel each other out, and the vinegar causes the soap to “unsaponify”, and it gets all curdled and clumpy.” Once they are mixed they just don’t work. You can use them separately. They are great cleaners, just not when they are mixed. Please click on the quote to go to her site and learn more about it!

We’ll see how it turns out!

This is what I came up with:

Dish Soap

1 cup water

¼ cup Castile

1TB Borax

20 Drops Tea Tree

1 tsp Glycerin

Heat ¼ cup of the water in the microwave for 1 minute.

Put the Borax in the water and stir until dissolved.

Add the rest of the water, Castile, Tea Tree and Glycerin. Stir to combine.

I put mine in a foaming soap dispenser. I’ll let you all know how it goes!
