It’s been awhile I have been on here, but I have been so fatigued. I had an incident yesterday that really scared me. I was wondering if any of you have had this happen…
I was pulling weeds in the yard. I was also taking breaks so I don’t think I over did it. First I got this feeling on the upper part of my arm. It was a burning feeling and hurt really bad. It then started to travel down my arm. It felt like hot razors were slashing my skin. I thought I was going to have to go to the doctor. After about 20 minutes it went away, but the pain is hard to forget.
After another break I finished up. It took about 10 minutes. I started to feel funny. Unstable and dizzy. I went inside and after going to the bathroom I was feeling worse. I thought maybe I needed to eat something so I got a bowl of cereal and while I was eating my body was getting heavier and heavier. My son was sitting with me, 13 years old, I told him to get the blood pressure monitor. By the time he got back with it I could barely hold myself up. Luckily my arm was on the table by the bowl. That was the only thing keeping my face from being in the bowl. My son got the cuff on and my blood pressure wasn’t to bad around 90/56 or so. It was jumping up and down and so was my pulse anywhere between 85 and 135. I could barely talk or open my eyes. I was slurring badly. The kids tried calling my husband and didn’t get an answer so I managed to tell them to call 911. It took a bit for them to translate what I was saying.
The paramedics checked everything and it all seemed ok, but I couldn’t move or really talk. I knew what was going on, but I couldn’t let them know that my mind was still active.
They got me to the hospital and they ran more tests. As usual they didn’t find anything at all. I’m so tired of that happening. At least this time they saw what was happening. I became more alert as time went on, but I could not move my legs from the knee down and my hands were not reacting properly. After a bit I was able to wiggle my toes a little but not fully and it took A LOT of effort.
After 5 hours I seemed to be back in working order. They let me go home since they couldn’t find anything. I was still shaky but could walk and talk normal. I got home and pretty much slept until a few hours ago. I am still shaky today, but I have finally been able to stay out of bed for a few hours. I do feel a nap coming on very soon.
Also for a few months I wake up and before I get out of bed I shake uncontrollably for almost a minute. I don’t know if this has anything to do with it.
Well, I went to the Neurologist this week and he tested me for neuropathy and I don’t have it! I do have cubital tunnel syndrome which is similar to carpal tunnel, but in the elbow. He said it’s mild and I just need to try not to lean on my elbows. Ugh, I’m a leaner! I have been my whole life. It’s a good thing my parents weren’t a “get your elbows off the table” kind of parents. Or maybe it’s a bad thing. Do I have them to blame for this problem? I think so! LOL! I guess I should start being one of those parents so my kids can have the chance to escape this syndrome! 🙂
He gave me a new medication for the migraines and it worked! After 6 days with a splitting headache I am free! It didn’t make me feel sleepy or loopy. This is the best news! I’m trying to get a new job and I don’t want to have to deal with migraines! In the past I just went to work and put on my happy face even though my head was throbbing. I pushed through the day and nobody had a clue unless I told them. I’m good like that.
Along with the disappearance of my migraines my Sjogren’s flare is over. Happy dance!!! It was a small one since I’m on the Cymbalta. Between these two new meds I’m like a new person. It is a wonderful feeling!
So far so good! A few days ago I started out feeling really dizzy and sick to my stomach. I tried to lay down and my heart kept fluttering really bad and my head felt like it was the ocean. I checked my blood pressure and it was low. I checked it a few more times over the next hour and it was still low. Finally I decided to go to the doctor since I couldn’t walk a straight line.
Their EKG wasn’t working so I didn’t get that done, but she said my heart sounded OK. She had me close my eyes and stand up and I almost fell over. She did the cotton ball test on my feet to see if I felt it. She told me to close my eyes and tell her when I felt it touch my feet. I did as I was told and thought about peeking to see if she was doing anything. I finally felt it touch the top of my right foot. She had me open my eyes again. She asked if I felt her touch me anywhere else. No I didn’t. According to her and her witness, my mom, she was rubbing it all over both feet and I didn’t feel a thing!!! I find that really creepy! We are back to the neuropathy thing again. She thinks I have it, my Rheumy thinks I have it and my Gastro thinks I have it. My Neurologist won’t even test me for it, so it’s time to find a new Neurologist.
She gave me a sample and a prescription for Cymbalta. I started it yesterday and there is already a difference. I have been in a lot of pain the past week. About an hour after I took it I could walk normal. The pain was gone! Now, over the past 4 years since I have been diagnosed I have tried 4 or 5 or more different NSAIDs. They have never helped. I was still in pain. I knew there had to be something out there that would work! I have finally found it!
This is only the 2nd day so I have to watch out for any reactions to it. I am very sensitive to medicine. So far so good! The only thing that I have noticed so far is that food doesn’t taste the same. My coffee this morning… blech!!! I’m drinking it cause it’s coffee and I know it really does taste good and that my mouth is just playing tricks on me, but yeah, it really tastes bad. Everything I ate yesterday had an off taste to it also. I figure this might help with my weight loss since I’m not really enjoying my food!
So the pluses so far…
Eating less due to messed up taste buds
The minuses so far…
Messed up taste buds
Waking up in the middle of the night (I made the mistake of taking it at night)
Well, that’s it for now! If anyone else has tried it let me know what you think of it in the comments!
Have a wonderful day!!!
Also if you have a Sjogren’s blog or one that you think I might enjoy let me know so I can check it out!
