Hippie or Not?

As the past year has gone by I have been trying to find ways to save money. I’m all about saving the earth and what not, but that was not my original concern. I know… I’m a bad person. I haven’t had a job and after my husband retired from the Air Force he didn’t either for about 8 months. It started out with us doing a garden and coupons and has snowballed from there.

~I try to grow most of our own vegetables. My winter garden failed miserably. The deer came and ate all my new baby plants! ***reminder to put something around/over my garden next year***

~I coupon, but it really does take up so much time that I’m not into it as much as I was at the beginning.

~I taught myself to crochet and made my Christmas presents last year and am working on them this year. I have to stop often because it makes my hands hurt pretty bad but I like doing it and seeing the finished product.

~I am teaching myself to sew.

~I started using vinegar and baking soda for much of my cleaning.

~I bake my own bread… with a bread machine of course! I make my own bagels and cook a week worth of pancakes to last the kids so I don’t have to buy poptarts any more.

~I started composting this year. We will see in the spring how I did on it…

~My recycle bin is overflowing and my trash can is not.

~I always try to reuse things or re-purpose them.

That’s all I can think of at the moment. While looking for recipes I found a new blog that I just love!!! It’s called Crunchy Betty and she has the best info and links all in one place! Here is the link to The Best of Crunchy Betty!

After my research today I went out to purchase all my ingredients and found them all at Walmart! I was very surprised since I haven’t seen the items at regular grocery stores. I am getting my oils online. I got my 5 gallon bucket at Firehouse Subs! Score! We got to eat lunch there also. I hope my laundry doesn’t smell like pickles… 🙂

I’m excited to start making my cleaning products and testing them out! I know many have been tried and tested over and over again, but there are always positive and negative comments so I’m starting on my journey to find the ones that work best for me. I will post them when I make them and try them out with the links to where I found them of course!

Now the question is… am I turning into a hippie? Where do I buy hippie clothes? Oh and that green stuff that they smoke too!!! J/K… Nah, I’m not a hippie, just a chick that wants to know what is in her products and save money at the same time!

Well, that’s it for now! I hope you all have a wonderful night!

Johnsonville Party!

At the beginning of October I was able to host a House Party for Johnsonville! I really don’t like pepperoni so this was perfect for me! 🙂

Since I learned about grilling pizza I’ve decided it’s the only way for me!

The best husband in the whole wide world!!!

Our awesome pizza bar! Everyone brought their favorite toppings so we had a bunch to choose from!

Making the pizzas!

We cooked the pizza in the oven since there were so many of them. I usually put them on the grill on the non-heat side.

We had a great time that night. We had almost 20 people there. It was a great party and I’m so glad that I could enjoy it with my friends and family!

Seizure???

So the doc thinks I’m having mini seizures. From my latest description and the meds I’m on that is the route we are heading in now. I’m on a new medicine, Lamictal. He said it is for seizures and very safe. Not sure what his idea of safe is when the warning says I can get a life threatening rash!?! LOL! What kind of rash is life threatening? I did find that Lupus can cause these types of seizures. My old Rheumy said I was in the beginning stages of Lupus. Does this mean I’m further along now? Blah, all this sucks.

For having a new diagnosis I think I handled it pretty well. I usually freak out and drink too much. I must be getting used to this shit.

So, we now have Sjogren’s Syndrome, maybe Lupus, Fibromyalgia, and Raynaud’s. I wonder how many more I can add before the end of the year.

What can I say?

Every once in a while I tend to hide in my little hole and try to pretend the rest of the world does not exist. I’m not sure if I am done or not, but I am poking my head out to see what’s going on.

Here is a bit of what I have been up to the past month…

I found my bread maker! Well, I knew where it was, but have never really used it. Now I am using it like crazy! I haven’t bought a loaf of bread in weeks. The bad part is that it is so yummy the kids are acting like white bread is a dessert! What is wrong with them! I can barely make it fast enough!

Someone, the younger girl in our family, not saying any names… Kind of backed into our garage.

With my pretty car… 😦 Not so pretty now is it?

While running out my mom’s back door to save her from burning to death I managed to fall and sprain my ankle. Turned out she was yelling “I started the fire!” not “I’m on fire!”.

I may have had a nervous breakdown or two due to all the stress of the past few years building and building. I’m one that is fine and dandy and then I explode…

Due to all the stress I am now selling myself to the highest bidder. I mean most expensive beer. Just kidding. I thought this was cute and decided to add it. I’ll take all beer you offer though. Oh yeah, I’m making Christmas presents! That’s where the crochet part comes in. It helps with the stress.

So basically that has been my October. I also failed to note that my memory sucks this past week. I feel like there is more, but I just can’t remember it! LOL!

Busy

The busy time of the year has started! As I typed that last sentence I realized that I forgot to bring my son to Boy Scouts last night! Ugh!!! Sorry, I’ll get back on track. School started yesterday in our wonderful county. The kids were so excited… well, actually they didn’t want to go. Oh well, they will get over it. I had to do it all those years so they can too!

Everyone say “Hi Lisa!”

On Saturday we picked up our new exchange student, Lisa, from the airport. She is from Germany and a really neat girl! She seems to be getting along well. Yesterday I took her up to the school and got her enrolled. Today we go and finalize her classes and then she can officially start school here. We got her a phone for here in the states so she doesn’t have those awful roaming charges and got the basic toiletries and what not.

Both the kids seemed to “like” their first day at school. We had the normal complaints of teachers they don’t like already, but they will get over that also or just continue to complain throughout the year. This year John is in Scouts and taking Karate and Holly is in Color Guard. Which means pretty much everyday I will be running to take someone somewhere or going to get them and bring them home. The whole after school activities thing makes it hard to cook dinner, but what can a chick do? I did pull it off last night so I’m sure I might be able to do it again! Yea me!

I guess I’m pretty much rambling here. I haven’t posted in a few days and needed to get something up. 🙂 Have a wonderful day today and enjoy the quiet house with no kids… if your kids have gone back to school.

Feeling Old…

I see this way to often now...

When I was younger I’d wonder how my grandparents could get up at 5 am and stay up til 10. I’m still wondering that same thing today. In the past few years I have started waking up earlier, and earlier and earlier! I’m getting old! I’m supposed to be up all night watching TV and hanging out. Now, I wake up around 5:30 am and sit on the deck with my coffee. If I make it correctly.

Yesterday I forgot to put the coffee in the coffee maker and it’s the dispensing kind and my mugs are dark brown inside, so I didn’t realize it until I took my first sip and was trying to figure out why it was so darn weak!!! Then it hit me, there was no coffee in it! Lucky for me I put cocoa, cinnamon and Splenda in it so it was like drinking hot chocolate and not hot Splenda water. I did remember to put the filter in at least. I took extra care this morning with my coffee. I had to get it right the first time!

So anyway… yes I wake up at 5:30 every morning now. Between 9pm and 10pm I am ready for bed. Grandma used to stay up a little later than that. The thing is I pretty much have to take a nap everyday. At least 2 hours. I don’t remember Grandma ever taking a nap! Hehe! Like I said I am getting old. Well, I do realize it is just the fatigue from the SJS, but it still makes me feel old.

I go to the Neurologist today to find out the results of my neck MRI and my EEG. I have already had brain MRI’s and they didn’t find anything. It’s so sad to hear that. I was pretty sure I had something up there! So, I’m not very optimistic about the EEG. If they didn’t find anything in the brain MRI then I don’t think I’ll have any brain waves. 🙂

Gotta joke about this stuff you know? It’s the only way to get though it. Laughter is was gives us hope. Who wants to sit around feeling sorry for themselves all the time? Apparently there are a lot of people out there that do. I don’t understand it. My life isn’t over because of Sjogren’s it’s just different.

You all have a wonderful day today! Find something to laugh about!!!
